How to Write Your Psychology Today Profile

Like many therapists, my clients come to me from two main sources: colleagues (doctors, therapists, treatment centres) and Psychology Today.

People who come to me via Psychology Today usually stay with me long term and I believe this is because by the time they find me, they already know we are well matched.

Writing style and key words can represent our personalities to potential clients. We can make the process of starting therapy, usually a vulnerable and challenging time for most, easier for potential clients by being clear about our procedures and policies.

This free course takes you through the whole Psychology Today profile step by step with examples from my own and other profiles to give you tips on what to include and what to avoid. We start with a brainstorming exercise, write your personal statement using my formula and finish with all the check boxes and supporting sections.

I stay up to date with PT features and update sections as and when I hear about them. This course now includes guidance for preparing your profile video and Covid-19 statement.

Disclaimer: I am a therapist in private practice and not affiliated with Psychology Today.

How to Start Your Online Therapy Group (Workshop Replay)

In September 2020, Tamara Howell & Sarah Dosanjh offered a double workshop on the topic of How to Start Your Online Therapy Group.

How to Start Your Online Therapy Group

  • Do you wish therapy was accessible to more clients?
  • Have you thought about offering group therapy online, but don't know where to start?
  • Are you keen to practise your new technology skills (or develop more!) within the therapeutic space?
  • Would you like to know how to set up and market your group so potential clients can find you?

The videos are published inside this course and contain the following:

  • How to support more clients without increasing your client hours
  • The pitfalls of groupwork online and how to manage boundaries and ethical concerns
  • The key questions to ask when figuring out whether online group therapy is going to work for potential clients
  • How to help your ideal group clients find you

The premise of the workshop is that offering online groups may be a way to provide support to more clients with a more accessible and affordable format whilst also reducing burnout for Therapists. There are two videos totalling over five hours of the workshop and presentation (breakout groups have been excluded).

How to Write Your Cancellation Policy

Many of us working in private practice struggle to set and explain clear cancellation terms. Our difficulties with deciding when to be flexible, how to remind clients or how to follow up after a late cancellation lead to unnecessary rupture and unfortunately in many instances, losing clients. Having clarity about our policies and practising how to deliver them can alleviate some of this stress so we can concentrate on doing our best work in session.

Starting therapy is usually a vulnerable and challenging time for most clients and through providing clear policies and documentation, we can create safety and security for them.

This free course takes you through considering and writing your cancellation policy step by step. We look at the function as well as exceptions, examples and challenges. We will create your own wordings for a cancellation agreement, templates for emails following a late cancellation or non attendance, and how to discuss cancellation with clients.

Our lawyer approved wording is included for you to adapt to your practice.

Here I offer guidance and summaries of the work I did, to save you time and streamline your writing process.

This course is divided into audiovisual presentations, plus supporting text relating to ethical guidelines, references, template wordings and descriptions of my own practice procedures.

The course is available as a standalone product or as part of the Therapy Contract Document bundle.
